Five Things In May 2018

It has been a year or maybe more since my previous "Five Things In _____" post. I am back with it now and I love doing these kind of posts 'cause it allows me to go a little bit personal with you guys. If you are new to this blog or unfamiliar with this series, this is where I will do some catching up of things that happened during that particular month.

- Ramadan month

Ramadan is here! It is the most awaited month for me and I am so happy that it is happening now. It has only been 13 days of fasting and I am shrinking already. Tell me in the comment if you are having the same case as me. Haha! Anyway, here is to being closer to our Creator, spending more quality activities with our families and friends and getting rid of bad habits. Ramadan Kareem to Muslims all over the world!

- Internship

I cannot believe I am so close to graduate college. Well, I have to go through a six-months of internship first, and only then I will be graduating. After thousands of interviews, I am finally selected as an intern at a local company located in Subang Jaya. It was so unexpected 'cause I was like nearly giving up and then one day, I got a phone call saying that I am selected as the new intern. Thank god! I am so looking forward to work with the team. Please pray for my internship journey, guys!

- I need plain water, and that is it

If you do not already know, plain water is my middle name. Lol okay, all jokes aside. I am fully utilizing this holy month - I am starting to drink only plain water and avoiding all sugary drinks at all cost. One of my main sugar sources are dates. Mind you, dates are my least favorite thing to eat but I am like a whole different person this time and I like dates!

Back to the topic, plain water. Yes. Why you should drink water? 'Cause if you want clear, flawless, healthy looking and snatched skin before Eid, this should be your best friend. How would I know? I know, 'cause I have seen the result on my very own skin. It has only been 13 days, guys. If I am really committed, I can beat Park Shin Hye's skin real soon!

- I shop too much

I think I should abolish my online banking account. Someone please change my password, I could not take it anymore. This is the downside of having an online banking account, the constant online shopping activities just give me a fright. At the time of this post going live, I am still waiting for another packages to arrive at my front door. The good news is I can make a blog post about them, right?

- Blogging rut

Yes, I am in a blogging rut and it is getting ugly. I thought I could do more than 6 posts in a month since I am on my two-months semester break, but I am so failed. I have so many blog ideas in my mind but I am not feeling it right now. I am so lazy to take pictures, I am so lazy to make them look pretty, I am super lazy. Ugh, where is the motivation!?

I am enjoying my May. How about you?

Catrice The Essential Nude Eyeshadow Palette

I have had this palette for quite some time, I mean like a very long time ago. I have been meaning to do a review but I just never really try to make one. But here it is! I have been using it religiously and I have gathered my overall thoughts about this palette. This is The Essential Nude Eyeshadow Palette by Catrice | RM26

Catrice The Essential Nude Eyeshadow Palette | LENNE ZULKIFLLY

I got it because it was pretty promising, it is budget-friendly and when I swatched it, I was like, "Wow, I think I'm gonna get this one". Here's the thing, I guess drugstore eyeshadow palettes are not my thing because some of them are pure disappointment. However, that is not the case with this one. Do not get me wrong, this palette is not a game changer by any means but it is worth trying and looking into and would not break the bank. Okay?

PACKAGING

For such an affordable brand to begin with, I think this packaging looks pretty high end than they actually are. Though it is made of plastic, it is so sturdy! It contains no mirror but I never really mind that. And it comes with no sponge applicator, which I do not mind either I am gonna use my own brush anyway. Also, they included tips with images on how to use this product on the back of the packaging, and that is absolutely convenient for beginners.

TEXTURE/ PIGMENTATION/ BLENDING

You get nine eyeshadows in total that consist three shimmery shades and six matte eyeshadows.  They are buttery and soft to the touch especially the shimmer ones! Those are my favorites. The matte ones are great for transition and just all-over-the-lid shade. The color range is kinda earthy-toned and I think this palette works great for beginners too. They cannot go wrong with these type of shades.

Pigmentation wise, I have no issue with it. I am pleasantly surprised and they are long wearing too! But something to bear in mind that they are quite powdery and have a lot of fallout especially the dark shades. To be honest, at first, blending was quite an issue with these. Nothing major but there was a lot of building up, a lot of blending but you can make it work once you got the hang of it! You can see the result in my post HERE.

Other than that, this palette is gorgeous.

PROS

Budget-friendly
Pigmented
Velvety soft shades
Long wearing
Beginner-friendly
Workable and buildable
Suitable-for-everyday color
Paraben free

CONS

Powdery
Have a lot of fallout
Always out-of-stock

VERDICT

Overall, I think The Essential Nude Eyeshadow Palette by Catrice is great. You get what you paid for. For that price range, you cannot expect much but it is not half bad. I am still reaching for it every time I want a natural hint of color on the lids. And if you love natural, neutral shades, then I think the Catrice The Essential Nude Eyeshadow Palette would be nice one to own.

Have you tried this palette?

11 Beauty Tips and Tricks I Swear By

Hello, beauty enthusiasts! Don't you have that one, or maybe more tips and tricks that you swear by? The ones that got you covered and make a world of a difference. I know you do. Here, I have rounded up mine in one spot!

  • If you love super curly, volumizing and as-if-you-are-wearing-falsies kind of lashes, use a waterproof mascara first then add a coat or two of volumizing mascara on top

  • In order to achieve the no-makeup makeup look, make sure that your blush and lip color are slightly similar. The best way is to use tints! Apply some on the lips and on the cheeks and you are good to go

  • Always use a serum and moisturizer before applying makeup to achieve smooth canvas and flawless finish

  • Keep your face masks in the fridge for an extra refreshing skin treatment

  • Always prime the lips with lip balm before applying lip products to ensure smooth application

  • After washing and cleansing your face, it is better to let it air-dry rather than to pat-dry

  • Avoid touching your face too much as it can cause breakouts due to bacteria

  • Avoid using hair products too close to your scalp and face as it can cause breakouts too. It is better to nourish the ends and the middles

  • Don't brush your hair when it is wet because it is the most 'fragile' when it is wet. Use your fingers instead to detangle your hair and only brush it once it is dry

  • Don't exfoliate every single day. Please, treat your skin gently and only exfoliate twice a week

  • Mix and match foundation formulas for flawless finish and long lasting. I usually use mattifying foundation on oilier areas and a dewy formula around the perimeter of the face

What are some beauty tips and tricks that you swear by?

Why Fonts Matter | A Little Tips and Favorite Body Fonts

I am going to say it, I am a font snob. I have a weird obsession with typography. I love it when the font has some sophistication to it. It could add more value to your blog, seriously. It is one of the attention grabbers! I sometimes judge a blog based on the choice of font. #SorryNotSorry

The readability of your blog matters. A lot. At least to me. I came across quite a number of local and foreign blogs that have beautiful templates with amazeballs contents using fancy fonts that are hard to read, and guess what I do? Yup, I close the page.

The font you are using should be accessible on the reader's eyes and you should make it convenient for people to read. Imagine you have to stress your eyes to read an article that uses 10px cursive script. How annoying. You have a great content, you want the people to read but you are not helping the readers to understand.

You also want to develop a style into your writing, your content. This one gotta relate with your theme as it says a lot about your quality, skills and professionalism. You sure don't want to shoo people away with that one-word-is-normal-and-the-rest-is-in-bold-italicized-and-underlined-writing-style, am I right or am I right? Stop stressing people with that poor choice of font, and now poor writing style? It's 2018, people. Less is more.

Here are some of my favorite fonts and the reason why I love them and why you should too.

  • It suits a girl so much (read: beauty and lifestyle blog)

  • You just have to pair it with the suitable size and you are good to go

Playfair Display [Preview/ Download]

  • The aesthetic element in Playfair Display is just to die for
  • It is fancy and curved a little but easy to read
  • It flatters any blog that uses it
  • I love to use Playfair Display for a lot of my headings

Open Sans [Preview/ Download]

  • One of the most used fonts for websites
  • Simple and easily readable
  • Excellent for body text
  • I personally love whoever uses this font on their website because it's approachable and stylish!

Oswald [Preview/ Download]

  • Classic font
  • Simple, beautiful and readable
  • Fits best for both body font and heading

Montserrat [Preview/ Download]

  • Most popular web font
  • Classic and has an excellent readibility
  • I love the simplicity of the letters and it is prettier than Open Sans hehe

Lora [Preview/ Download]

  • Minimal type of font and suitable for minimalist blogs
  • Has a little curve and awesome italics
  • Versatile, great for both body font and heading
  • With the perfect size, Lora will appear superb for your website!

I am no expert in this department. The whole post is just mainly based on my interest and observation. To me content readability is no joke. It can affect one's experience, impression and the time that the reader spends on your blog. Nonetheless, I hope you can benefit a little from this and I hope you enjoyed!

What font are you using on your blog? What are your favorite go-to fonts?

What's New In My Skincare

I have recently had a little declutter where I got rid of things that were not for me anymore and bought some products I really wanted to try. So I thought I'd share with you what's new in my skincare.

A few weeks ago I picked up a facial scrub from Syahirah skincare. Syahirah is a Malaysian skincare brand that is easily accessible in most Malaysian drugstores. Their products are also free from non-halal ingredients so that's great for their Muslim consumers.

What's New In My Skincare | LENNE ZULKIFLLY

Anyway, back to the main point. I picked up the Syahirah Korean Secrets Hydra Soft Facial Scrub that retails for about RM13.90 for 100g of product and it also comes in a smaller size containing 50g of product that retails for about RM6.90.

The reason why I picked up this scrub was because, well, I ran out of facial scrub of course. Just kidding! I can't help it, it has an attractive packaging but it's not mainly because of that. I was intrigued by the "Korean Secrets" and I love the fact that it's formulated in Korea. If you don't already know, Korea be real serious with their skincare game and they are not playing around.

This scrub has tiny beads which are gentle to the skin. The texture is more less like my previous facial scrub from Organic Aid. It doesn't irritate my skin, it doesn't break me out so far and my skin feels squeaky clean without the tightness feeling afterwards. It's really hydrating, hence the name.

Side note, when I look up the ingredients online, it contains metylparaben and propylparaben which something that bothers me. However, that's not the case in the back of the product I bought. I guess they did a new formulation and cancel out the ingredients that would be a concern to some people? I may have to talk to them about this. Anyway, it's a great product and I am enjoying it so far.

Apart from that, I also picked up a serum! It's the Wardah C-Defense with Vitamic C Serum. Wardah is also a local brand that just hit the market. They have lots of skincare items and makeup too. I have tried their lipsticks and they're pretty impressive. I thought I would give this one a try because I have read a couple of beauty accounts on Twitter raved about it and is good for oily-skin gal.

It retails for about RM32 for 17ml of product, if you're wondering. I am not sure, is it just my brain or this product really just shrunk my "active" pimples? That was one of the immediate thoughts I had after been using it for a day. A day. Now that I have been using it for about a week or so, I can tell that my pimples are lessen, my skin feels smoother and less oily! I think I have found a gem.

So, what's new to your skincare?

Before-Bed Beauty Routine

Getting a good night sleep is what I'm all about. I'm a firm believer that a good night sleep leads to an exquisite day. In order to get there, it's important to give it a little help before I hit the bed. My before-bed beauty routine needs to be on-point because turns out, our body can do serious work for us while we sleep. Never underestimate this. Even though you're extremely tired to get up to clean yourself and all that jazz, but the littlest thing can have a big impact on you, no?

TAKE OFF THE MAKEUP. ALL OF IT

Take my advice; always, always, always cleanse. You know you should so don't pretend like you don't. I know it's so tempting to fall into bed with full face of makeup, but you'll regret it. Trust me. I've been there and it's not really a "beauty sleep" for me.

Even if you don't wear makeup, you still need to remove those dirt that have been sitting on top of your skin all day long. Yikes! Just spend a few minutes making your way to the sink and I swear it'll worth your time. If I were to add my favorite makeup remover, it has to be none other than the Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water. It's my holy-grail! It has been a staple in my skincare regimen. I then will continue with the rest of my skincare routine.

TIE THE HAIR UP IN THE BUN

I really can't sleep if my hair gets on my face. I feel so uncomfortable. It's really important for me (and you) to tie it up into a bun especially if you have an acne-prone skin. The act of this will keep the oil from the hair off your face so it doesn't break you out. I know some of you seeing this as a concern as you don't want to damage your hair but I'd say a loose and messy bun would do. It's a trick I always go for.

MASSAGE THE FACE

I always give my face a little massage, a little bit of slow and relaxing rub on the jaw line and "dancing fingers" under the eyes before I go to bed. It doesn't take long, 2 or 3 minutes is all you need. Why massage? Because it helps me relax before I go to bed, to ensure I have a good night sleep and look a little youthful. Yup, now you know what to do, right?

A CUP OF TEA

Having a cuppa in my night clothes before bed is extremely relaxing, at least for me. I find it really peaceful and helps me calm. It can do so much, actually. When I'm having a bad day, a cup of tea. When I'm happy, a cup of tea. Day or night, a cup of tea. It doesn't have to be a cup of tea, though. Each of  us have a personal preference and I know someone who can't live without her coffee. As long as it is something warm, you're good to go.

What's your before-bed beauty routine like?
