5 Malay Drama Clichés

5 Malay Drama Cliches

Hi everyone! So, are you a drama lover? Oops, let me correct that. Are you a Malay drama lover? Because you will be agreeing with all of my statements in this post. Maybe not all. I'm not into drama that much, I prefer movies. My bae and I would go to the movies 2 or 3 times a month!

There are many Malay dramas out there, each with interesting plots, unique storylines, awesome characters, actors and settings. Sometimes, they're just so typical. And let's not forget the crappy, cringey titles. But, when it comes down to it, some cliché elements just have to be there to make it a drama.

Love triangles

What drama wouldn't be perfect without some kind of love triangle? Some Malay dramas would take it up a notch and have more than 3 characters entangled in a love situation. It's so typical and I couldn't help but cringe!

The old lover

As if the love triangle wasn't enough, someone's old lover has to show up for a moment to fight for their past love. This has to be in the drama and making the love lines more complicated. I personally hate it but if he's charming, I wouldn't mind.

A family member who disapproves of the relationship

If you think the comeback of an old lover is a crappy situation, this one is even more crappy. One of the parents, usually the mother, has to dislike their son/daughter-in-law and try to make their life miserable. Can you not? Why can't you live life happily and have some ice cream once in a while?

Rich, I mean, VERY rich people

Usually, it's the main male lead who comes from a super-rich family or is a successful CEO/ businessman. The one who always makes last-minute vacation plans to very far away places and isn't afraid to buy all the products in a store yada yada yada.

Top of the lines cellphones

It doesn't matter if they come from a rich or a poor family, everyone has the newest, coolest cellphones. You've got to agree with me ;)

I have nothing against Malay drama though, I just think that people may actually recognize these things as much as I recognize them. Whatever it is, I watch them too, but only the ones that are worth my time. I hope you enjoyed it and let me know what you think.

Do you have more Malay drama clichés to add?
