Cheapest Forms Of Self-Care That Actually Works
Being in the middle of my twenties came a lot of pressure but I am not letting that continue to happen. I feel like the most important thing in life is just peace of mind and taking care of yourself in general. It's the most valuable thing for me now and anything that interferes with it deserves to be thrown away.

Taking care of my mental health is my top priority these days as it's easy to be stressed out and overwhelmed with what's going on with our planet. So I go over some of the cheapest ways to manage my anxiety and it's working for me. Please enjoy some of these self-care ideas that are either inexpensive or free and are quite easy to do.

go on a walk

Well, it's no surprise that getting outside, getting as much sun as possible and connecting with nature reduces stress and helps clear a messy mind. I always wind up feeling a lot better and happier after I go on a walk.

organize and declutter

Now is a great time to declutter. I always find something to reorganize and declutter around the house because it's refreshing and you're able to reevaluate what you truly need. I have been on organizing kick lately and if you ask me, there's no better way to take care of yourself than to surround yourself with things that make your life easier and happier.

a weekend getaway

This is pretty self-explanatory, but truthfully every once in a while you need to let off some steam. Staycations are definitely in trend right now. It allows you to explore somewhere close to you and appreciate what's around you. So what do you say?

watch an old fav movie

I always opt for movies because tv series can suck you in for hours. I think it's forgiving to watch movies and I recently watched The Parent Trap and The Lizzie McGuire Movie. It's classic and I don't have to use my brain a lot while watching these kinds of movies.

have a “nothing” day

Have yourself a day where you do absolutely nothing for one whole day. A day where you don't do work, screw all the to-do lists and focus on yourself. If you need to sleep or finish the book that you've started, you can do it on this day and you shouldn't have to explain yourself to anyone and feel guilty for it.

bullet journalling

This has got to be one of the best forms of self-care for me. So far it helps me to distance unwanted stress and really have the time for me and the journal itself. Creating useful spreads and positive quotes are my favourite things to do.

sheet masks

Another favourite! My skincare and I seem inseparable. I will always do my skincare routine every day. I have my daily, “quick and easy” skincare routine and then one that takes a little bit longer where I am taking a few extra moments to indulge. I am enjoying the slow moments and nothing puts the brakes on my day like applying a sheet mask.

make a playlist of music you used to love but haven't listened to in a while

If this doesn't bring back memories, I don't know what does. Aside from memories, it's feeling nothing but carefree. When was the last time you felt carefree? I bet it was when you were younger. My younger days would be bleak without music. I currently have the 90s and 00s playlist on my Spotify that's on repeat!

revisit an old hobby

For me, it's colouring. I like to just be fully occupied by it for hours like I used to when I was a kid. It's the best form of stress-reliever and it's still fun after all these years.

play online video games (for free!)

It's no secret that playing digital games is an effective stress-reliever for a lot of people, especially the younger generations. For me, playing video games is an excuse to escape from my busy, working life. I know what you're thinking - how can gaming be considered as self-care?

It's an easy concept. Self-care is whatever you do to help you relax and feel good about yourself. It's about making an effort to take care of yourself in all aspects - physically, mentally and emotionally.

I am an avid video game player. I have all sorts of games installed on my little tablet. I play video games one too many times and there's nothing wrong with it. So I am recently getting most of my inner gamer-girl fix from an online video games site called Plays.org

now, what is Plays.org?

If you're unfamiliar with Plays.org, Plays.org is a site that offers over 150 fun and most importantly free online games which can be played from the browser whether you're on your computer, tablet or phone. There is no need to download any apps to play which is always nice so it doesn't take up space on your tablet or phone.

First thing first, I feel like it's so nostalgic and it's refreshing to see them highlighting some of the best old-school games like Pinball and Tetris. And to be honest, I have a thing for their retro-style layout with arcade-ish sound in the background while you're playing. Oh, it brings back so many memories.

Some of my favourite games at Plays.org are Open Restaurant, Find The Pug and the Fast Typer game. I like games that cater to my inner OG-ness as well as that keeps me awake. For instance, the Fast Typer game is quite frantic but in a good way and it's absolutely exciting to see how far you can go with your typing skills per minute. With over 400 games on the site and games being added daily, you're sure to find a game that you will enjoy.

Other than their fabulous choices of games, I appreciate that there are no ads added to their gaming site. Thank goodness! I don't have to pay to get rid of ads and nothing is in my way. The site is clean and just better for my inner peace. This is why Plays.org is just the opposite of what many of the other gaming sites are.

Overall, gaming is definitely a fun way of self-care rituals. I think it's important that we know what works for us and playing online video games certainly works for me too as an adult. If you're looking for the cheapest form of self-care during this season of staying in, consider checking out Plays.org.
Have you tried any of these self-care ideas? What do you do to take care of yourself?
