Becoming a Freelancer

Becoming a Freelancer

When I first quit my 9-5 job in 2020, I planned to freelance for several months or so and then continue to job hunt. I went to various places, countless interviews, and got work as well but not kinda. Put in lots of effort, time, energy and most importantly $$$ for something completely uncertain.

Many moons later, I realised I am happily pursuing my dreams while sipping hot tea on a crisp Monday morning like a boss babe or something. Well, it's safe to say that I've learned a lot throughout the journey. It's not as easy as it may seem but this is what I actually want to do. This is the career I've chosen for myself and so intrinsically it's going to become a massive part of my life.

I began this route of freelancing full-time for a company that I discovered in 2018 and we've been working non-stop ever since but it wasn't until February 2021 that I really got into the groove and decided this lifestyle fits me and self-employment is the one for me.

Some people might be thinking "okay she's just becoming a full-time blogger, full-time jobless", yada yada yada lol no. First things first, I don't know if you've noticed I do very little sponsored content on my blog so my blog is actually not a huge money machine for me. I don't make very much money on this platform, which is totally fine, I just love creating content that I enjoy and people can relate to.

However, it has kind of function as a part-time job, you know what I mean? I've worked really hard on this platform and trying to be consistent for a really long time. It really taught me self-motivation, sticking to deadlines making sure I'm constantly being creative even if I'm completely run out of ideas. It forces me to be more creative and consistent.

On top of that, it has taught me a lot about making money online as well as how it works — earning money from different currencies. So yeah I do focus on my blog, it is a part of my side hustle if you will.

Being a freelancer is one huge part of what I want to do and this is going to be an ongoing process. I know I am not an established freelancer, I am just starting out but I am thrilled with my decision. I am not saying that freelance is in any way better than any other career. If you decide to be a teacher, that doesn't mean that you think your job is more valuable than being a doctor. Right? You've chosen the one that fits you. I've realised that freelance is my journey and this route isn't for everybody.

So what I have been doing as a freelancer you ask? Well, a lot of things. One of them is me offering my writing services to different clients, basically writing about any topic a client assigns that are of course in my area of expertise. That's what I like about being a freelancer — I am in control and have the freedom to choose the projects I want to work on. More on this in a later blog post ;)

So far, I am loving it. I find it so fascinating to be writing a topic for other people and even more fascinating when my clients love it. I guess more than 10 years of experience in the blogging world came in handy lol. All jokes aside, this is just the beginning for me, you know? I really want to see where it's taking me.

Now that this has become my adventure for the past 17 months, I am so excited to share more with you because I think it's really interesting. It could be really relatable for a lot of you guys. xx
Have you ever considered freelancing?
