In this post, I'll spill the beans on how I turned my home into a money-making machine and we'll explore some proven strategies, tips and tricks and all that good stuff that hopefully can help you unlock the potential of working from home and make a substantial income.

Thanks to technological advancements, freelancing and remote work have become increasingly accessible and lucrative. People always ask me 'How?' and the answer to it is 'Just start, shoot your shot'. I became a full-time freelance writer even though I had no writing qualifications or contacts in the writing industry. I have honed my skills through years of blogging, dedication, and passion for the written word.
My journey to becoming a freelance writer began with a love of storytelling and a desire to share my unique perspective with the world. Also because I personally think this lifestyle fits me and self-employment is the one for me. Let's hope it's not just a phase *fingers crossed*
With time, I have developed a deep understanding of the craft and a knack for creating compelling content that engages and informs readers. I came across various clients from various social networking sites. I'm always on the Internet or Twitter searching for new freelance writing jobs. I personally love working manually this way as I can expect less competition compared to freelance sites.
I'd say if you need money fast and have skills in writing, marketing, graphic design, or any other field, you can give freelance writing a try. Make sure you build a strong and decent portfolio and establish a solid online presence to attract reliable and possibly high-paying clients.
2. Content creation and monetization
Are you passionate about creating content? Whether it's through writing, blogging, vlogging, or podcasting, the Internet offers countless opportunities to monetize your creativity.
By building a loyal audience through various platforms like YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, or your own website, you can attract a bunch of sponsorship deals, brand collaborations, and even earn revenue through ad placements or selling digital products. To be honest, other than writing and blogging, I don't think the other methods suit me. I'm much more "fit in" in the writing industry and the blogosphere.
The blog
If the thought of making money from your blog has you feeling giddy with excitement, then it's a good sign. Blogging has become one of the most lucrative online businesses and it's easy to see why.
I don't vividly know how or when it happened, but when I received my first sponsored post in 2016, I was on cloud nine! Although monetary compensation wasn't really a thing back then, it was a great experience and exposure nonetheless.
In fact, I received more and more sponsored post opportunities from that day on WITH monetary compensation. It was definitely a moment, to date I have made thousands from sponsored posts alone.
Hands down, this is absolutely a great opportunity for micro bloggers like me to make some money as a side income, especially in this day and age. From sponsored posts to ad placements, there are countless ways to monetize your blog. But before you take the plunge, there are a few things you need to know.
- Identify your niche and create content that speaks directly to your readers' interests and needs
- Be consistent in posting (once/twice a week really works for me!)
- Build a loyal following
- Explore different monetization strategies - where you can earn a commission for promoting other people's products or get paid to write about a brand or a product - your call
- Constantly engaging with the community and be genuine
- And much more
However, the most important thing to remember when it comes to earning money from your own website is that it takes time and effort. You can't expect to start making money overnight, and you need to be prepared to put in the work to build up your audience and establish yourself as an authority in your niche.
This means consistently publishing high-quality content (or something that helps people in some way, like this post!), engaging with your readers, and promoting your blog on social media and other platforms.
In short, earning money from blogging is a journey, not a destination. It takes patience, perseverance, and a willingness to learn and adapt as you go.
3. Affiliate marketing
Affiliate marketing is another popular method of earning money from home by promoting other people's products and earning a commission for each sale made through your unique referral link. It's pretty self-explanatory but I think it's one of the techniques to earn money fast. It's not a lot, but it does add up quickly!
I just want to say it's important to choose the right niche. This means finding a topic that you're passionate about and that has a large enough audience to make it worth your while. Whether you're into fitness, beauty, or finance, there's bound to be a niche that suits your interest. You can kinda see what are the things I enjoy talking about and sharing here so I'd love to focus on that.
Next, you'll need to find the right affiliate programs. Look for ones that offer generous commissions and that have a good reputation in the industry. I know Involve Asia is one of the largest affiliate marketing platforms in Malaysia and Asia. With over 1000 brands available on its platform, they allow everyone to earn commission by promoting various products and services! You can sign up using this link. They're pretty legit and I earn pretty pennies every other day but I concentrated most of my efforts on other referral programs.
Anyway, once you've signed up, it's time to start promoting. If you're a lifestyle content creator, you have way more products and services you can promote across various niches such as travel, fashion, and finance to name a few. It can be done through a variety of channels, such as your website, social media, or email marketing. Whatever method you choose, make sure that you're providing value to your audience and not just spamming them with affiliate links.
4. Start a small business
The rise of e-commerce has opened up countless avenues for regular people like me to generate money from home. I know starting a business is a big deal, it's pretty daunting and it's not everyone's cup of tea but starting your own business comes with its own set of silver linings. For one, you get to be your own boss and set your own schedule. It gives you the freedom to pursue your passion and turn it into a profitable venture.
Starting your own business also allows for a greater sense of control over your financial future. You have the ability to set your own prices and determine your own income. Plus, the potential growth is endless! With hard work and dedication, your business can be a thriving enterprise.

People are loving what we do and what we have put up thus far so it's only fair for us to continue the flow and momentum. I know it also means more screen time but it truly, definitely works. This not only sets us apart from other clay businesses but also allows us to brush up on our skills every time and charge more for our services. Plus, people are willing to pay extra for something that is unique and tailored to their preferences. Now, I'm well aware that this is not a one-size-fits-all type of recommendation but if you have all the manuals, then by all means.
It's not going to be easy, I'll give you that but the rewards are plentiful. It takes a lot of hard work, creativity and business savvy, but it's worth it to do what I love and share my passion with the world. I don't know if you need to hear this or not but go ahead, take the plunge. You will finally have a legitimate excuse to drink copious amounts of tea (or coffee) and wear sweatpants to work lol.
