How I Perfect My Base | Foundation Routine for Oily Skin

If you are an oily skin gal like me, and you have to have a foundation that will look good all day (which is almost impossible), this post might be the one you're looking for! Hopefully, it will benefit a lot of people with oily skin out there. Don't you just hate it when it is not even 6pm and you're checking yourself in the mirror and you see your makeup is fading in one area because of the oil? It is annoying. Big time. So, here's how I perfect my base makeup.

how i perfect my base:

First things first, of course, skincare. Never ever forget to apply serum, moisturizer, and sunscreen before moving on to your foundation and whatnot.

step 1: a primer

Yes, I do prime my face using a matte and pore filling primer. My favorite has to be the Maybelline Baby Skin Pore Eraser. The reason why I put on primer because I want a smooth surface before I cake my face with foundation and whatnot. Since we want to make sure our base makeup is still intact even if it's already passed the bedtime, primer is mandatory.

step 2: loose setting powder

Hold up, don't freak out. I know it's against the beauty rule BUT TRUST ME. It worked! I have been putting powder over foundation for quite some time now and I'm not changing my routine no more. So the order goes like this: powder > foundation > the rest of the step. I cannot emphasize enough how amazing it is on top of my skin. I am in love with the Silkygirl No Sebum Mineral Loose Setting Powder as of recently but the Catrice Nude Illusion Loose Powder works great too. Just use any loose setting powder you own, lightly brush it all over your face and you're good to go.

step 3: matte foundation

Once that done, it is time for the foundation. Anything that says "matte" on it, it is going to be your bestie. Okay, you know how big my love for the Maybelline Fit Me! Matte + Poreless Foundation (I am using the shade 220 Natural Beige) and yes I'm telling you yet again, I cannot get over it - it is incredible! But just use any type of matte foundation of your choice, it doesn't have to be this one though. With the powder already set, just go in with your foundation application. I don't know if I am trippin' or what but powder on top of foundation gives the foundation a little bit more coverage than usual.

step 4: concealer

I have raved about my Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer before, and guess what I'm going to do? Yup, I will do it again, just in case if you are new here. I love the shade Medium and Sand because they have a little bit of yellow tint to it that is enough for me to cancel out my redness, under-eye circles, and blemishes. Sometimes I like to switch it up with the Tarte Shape Tape but I honestly love the Age Rewind more recently.

In case you're wondering, I'm blending all my base using the iconic beauty blender (my must-have beauty tools ever) okay now moving on to the last step, finally.

step 5: loose setting powder, again

Finally, after you have done with step 1 until 4, using your beauty sponge, lightly dip into the loose setting powder and set the foundation and concealer. Just lightly, guys. And please remember, DO NOT do the 'baking' thing because it will look cakey, patchy and ruin your base and it is not cute.

  1. I prefer using BB or CC cream which is low coverage & produce less oil, but still I wanted to wear foundation, other than maybelline fit me, ada foundation lain tak yang matte?

    1. You can opt for Loreal Infallible Pro-Matte, Revlon Colorstay for Combo/Oily Skin, Rimmel London Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation & Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse :) Ni je yang senang cari kat drugstore hehe.

  2. This is interesting. I'm a noob about anything make up so my steps are simpler than yours. I use matte foundation, sometimes concealer, compact powder and setting spray. All of them from Maybelline (because I'm a cheapskate, hehe!)

    1. Thanks for reading, Farah. Appreciate it ^^ Nothing's wrong with using all drugstore products though, in fact a lot of my products are from Maybelline because I think the price point is reasonable with its quality and they're easy to find! :D

  3. Sekarang tengah guna Sendayu Tinggi Matte BB Cushion Oil Control SPF50. Kemasan matte, tapi dalam masa yang sama bagi kulit muka glowing (yang ala-ala fresh gitu) . Aduhhh tak reti nak explain macam mana. Hehehe :D

Tapi rasanya macam kena pakai something la sebab Fatin perasan muka akan nampak bercapuk sikit. Mungkin sebab kulit Fatin kadang-kadang berminyak, kadang-kadang kering.

Ada apa-apa suggestion tak macam mana nak atasi masalah ni? TQ Lenne :)

    1. I guess your bb cushion has a semi-matte finish. Dia matte tapi bukan flat matte. Bb cushions memang known with they're dewy, semi-matte finishes though.

Actually bercapuk tu normal if kita tak moisturize, tak apply sunscreen etc before apply foundation. I'd say skincare first, then baru makeup. Lenne pun pernah je experience benda yg sama but bila apply serum, moisturizer and sunscreen, dah kurang dah masalah bercapuk ni :)

But bila dah apply skincare apa semua pun dia still bercapuk, it might be the foundation itself. Mungkin formula tak berapa best ke, or just memang tak ngam untuk kulit muka kita.
